Chocolate Walnut Pie

Home / Breakfast / Chocolate Walnut Pie
In Greece walnut pie is a traditional sweet. It is more of a cake than a pie, but we call it pie. Anyway, it is very tasteful and we eat it a lot during winter. This one is a twisted version with chocolate. The recipe originally comes from my favorite greek pastry chef Stelios Parliaros from his book Lessons of Sweet Alchemy. He never fails me and his recipes are very accurate. In this recipe he makes the syrup with the addition of coffee. Since there is a child at home, I decided to omit this ingredient and make a simple, plain syrup. But let’s take things from start.

Chocolate Walnut Pie
Ingredients
3 eggs
100 gr. sugar
140 gr. all purpose flour
60 gr. almond powder
125 gr. butter, melted
150 gr. milk
200 gr. walnuts, crumbled
100 gr. semi-sweet chocolate 55%, melted in bain marie
1 tsp baking powder
For the syrup
200 gr. sugar
200 gr. water
2/3 cup water

Instructions
Beat the eggs and sugar until fluffy. Add the almond powder, flour, baking powder and milk. Mix well. Add butter, melted chocolate and in the end add the walnuts stirring continuously. Preheat oven to 175 C. Empty batter in a well buttered and floured cake rack 25cm X 10cm and bake for approximately 40 minutes. Take it out. Let cool completely.
For the syrup
In a small pot we boil for 5 minutes the water and sugar. As it is hot we throw it to the cold walnut pie. Good Luck.
