German Chocolate Cake

  • ½ cup boiled water
  • 125 gr. / 2.5 oz. chocolate at least 60% cocoa
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup margarine
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2½ cups self – rising flour
  • 1 tsp soda or 2 tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 cup milk
Instructions/ Εκτέλεση
  1. Preheat oven to 175° C / 345° F.
  2. Butter and flour either one big spring form or two smaller ones.
  3. What I usually do is divide the batter into one medium spring form and another bread form.
  4. Melt chocolate with the hot water.
  5. Whisk until fully dissolved.
  6. Divide the egg yolks from the whites.
  7. In the mixer mix the sugar with the margarine until it becomes pale and fluffy.
  8. Add the egg yolks.
  9. Put the mixer to slow and throw the chocolate and the vanilla extract.
  10. Add alternately the flour-soda or baking powder- salt mixture and the milk.
  11. In another bowl whisk the whites to become meringue.
  12. Add the meringue to the batter and mix gently with a spatula.
  13. Throw the mixture to the pan or pans and bake for 40 to 45 minutes depending on the oven and the size of the pans.
  14. Start checking them after 30 minutes by inserting a knife. If it comes out clean then they are done.
