Brined Pork Steaks with Potato Chips

I am always in the search of easy and tasty recipes. Most of the days I run like crazy, trying to arrange everything. Making dinner is a very time consuming process, I am sure you all know that. There is no such thing as 30 minute meal or 25 minute meal, unless you buy something precooked from the super market, something I avoid like hell. For example, it takes 10 minutes to boil an egg, plus couple of minutes to take it out of the fridge, put it in the pot etc. All these brilliant, no doubt, cooks who claim that they have the perfect recipes for easy meals, they simply don’t. All these little bowls in front of them with all the ingredients nicely chopped or measured, take a lot of time to be prepared. Someone else behind them has done all the dirty work. Yes, if you have everything cleaned, chopped and measured of course you can make a meal in 20 or 30 minutes. But how much time it took to this poor guy to arrange everything, so as to arrive at this level? The reason why I am saying all this is because, every time I am tricked to make something claiming to be fast, I end up consuming as much time as preparing a conventional meal, and that is a little bit frustrating. Anyway, these steaks are easy and they do not take a lot of time to prepare, except the brine phase. If you have time try them, they are really great and not difficult at all. You can brine them overnight as well and you can use any meat you want. I had a few pork steaks in my freezer in danger of becoming a godzilla, if I didn’t cook them in time.

Brined Pork Steaks with Potato Chips

Ingredients
4 pork steaks
¼ cup dark brown sugar
1 tsp mustard powder
1 tbsp white wine vinegar
1 cup beer
1 onion, chopped
1 bay leaf
3 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

In a pot put the 3 tbsp of olive oil in medium high heat. Add the onion and sauté for 5 minutes lowering the heat to medium. Throw the rest of the ingredients and simmer at low heat for 15 minutes. Let the sauce cool. Place the pork steaks in a glass pan and throw the brine. Let it stay for at least two hours to marinate. Fire up the broiler and broil until they are done. Every 10 minutes coat them with the marinate. Stop five minutes before they are done. I accompanied them with potato chips, but rice or even pasta goes very well.
